Safe childcare
Four eyes
We are working with a vulnerable group. In order to guarantee the safety of children, we implement the four-eye principle as prescribed in the Childcare Act. The four-eye principle means that our childcare is organised in such a way that the professional or trainee care worker will only interact with the children while he/she can be seen or heard by another adult.
If only a few children are present at the Childcare centre or at the Pre-school – at the beginning or at the end of the day – we deploy only one pedagogical worker, but we ensure that there is always a second adult present, who can see or hear the children. A second adult will also be present on excursions, unless it concerns the transport of children between fixed locations.
By joining groups if required, we can also deploy a minimum of 2 pedagogical workers at a location, even on days when there are only a few children present.
VOG and registry of persons
All our employees are in possession of a VOG (Certificate of Good Behaviour) and are registered in the childcare persons registry. The safety of children is also guaranteed by our Protocol regarding the Suspicion of Child Abuse by an employee.
Well thought-out layout of the rooms
Our buildings are open and transparent. The kitchens and bathrooms for 0 to 4 year olds are accessible directly from the group rooms and from these rooms the pedagogical workers can keep a close eye on the children playing in the group rooms through the large windows or open doors. This applies to the childcare centres because the base groups work closely together in a unit, so that pedagogical workers and children can easily access the childcare centres together.
Babies have their own defined space where they can play and move safely, and from where they can watch the other children playing.
In almost all of our childcare centres, the bedrooms are adjacent to the group room. If this is not the case, baby monitors are used. Every 15 minutes, pedagogical workers will take a look at the sleeping children.
Details per location
In the pedagogical work plan of each location, we describe the specific details of the four-eyes policy.
